Directionally Challenged

October 9, 2016

I went with fickle feelings a few Sundays ago. After church service, I decided to take an item to a friend. I had never approached her apartment from this direction. I got off the freeway to get some gas. Afterwards, it “felt” right to turn to the left to get to her place, even though I saw a sign when I exited the freeway pointing me to another community near hers. I even called her to mention the route I was taking and she told me it was correct. After about 20 minutes of driving I had an uneasy feeling and called her back. That’s when she told me I was going the wrong direction. I drove at least 30 minutes out of the way.

The next morning the Lord whispered to me and said, “Cheryl, this is what happens when you ignore my signs (from the Bible) pointing you in one direction and you “feel” like it’s right to go another and you go with your feelings. He told me, “Your feelings don’t change the facts of the signs or the direction to get to your destination. My GPS is always right.”

I found out (once again, the hard way) we can waste precious time going by our feelings to determine the best way to navigate a relationship, a career, or a health choice. God will never steer us wrong. He tells us in Isaiah 48:17: “I am the Lord your God who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go.”

Watch those fickle feelings. Ignore them when they don’t line up with the Word of God.
