I had a flashback the other day about the public fall from grace of a popular minister years ago. What I remember most is my father crying like a baby when he heard the news. I had never seen my father in this state. He had so much confidence in this preacher. When this minister would come to town, my father (who didn’t venture out much beyond work and church) would attend his services. When he saw him on television (my father didn’t watch much TV either) he listened attentively to every word. In his mind, this preacher could do no wrong. He was a “man of God.”

The flashback and my father’s tears remind me of the sacred trust given to those who teach God’s Word. Apostle Paul said in II Cor. 5: 9-10 (NLT): “So our aim is to please him always…For we must all stand before Christ to be judged.” II Cor. 6:3-4 (NLT) “We try to live in such a way that no one will be hindered from finding the Lord by the way we act, and so no one can find fault with our ministry. In everything we do we try to show that we are true ministers of God.”

It is my constant prayer that I will live honorably in every way. May I never forget my father’s tears.
