Never Lose Hope

Within the last five days I’ve heard of three apparent suicide incidents, two involving families in Maryland. The latest this morning by the acting chief financial officer of the mortgage giant, Freddie Mac.

It is believed that the dismal  economic crisis possibly played a role in these outcomes. A mood of hopelessness. Many Americans have never faced such dire times. Unemployment is high, bills are due, jobs are scarce. Creditors keep calling. Where does one go to see “light” at the end of the tunnel?

It’s during times like this, I choose to seek encouragement from someone who’s been there before and survived dark days. Lately I’ve been thinking about the words of thd Old Testament prophet, Habakkuk. He was saddened by the state of affairs during his era and questioned God about His seeming indifference. The region was experiencing crop failure and the death of animals. Despite the reality of a situation that appeared “hopeless” Habbakuh said in Chapter 3, verses 17-19: “Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vine; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren…yet I will rejoice in the Lord! I will be joyful in the the God of my salvation! The Sovereign Lord is my strength!”

Hope is a choice. So is joy. Both can exist in a time of uncertainty. No matter what happens and how dismal the forecast looks…for those of us who place our hope ONLY in the Lord, the future is ALWAYS bright. Why? God alone is our Source and He promises to supply all of our needs. Keep your eyes on Him. You won’t lose your hope.

Always expecting great things of God,

Hi Cheryl, you make some great points in your latest post regarding the recent suicides. it does seem that so many people were defined by their net worth, and in the face of the downturn in the economy they are surrendering. They had there hopes in the wrong things and now they feel as if they have no hope.

I also write a wordpress blog and I invite you to visit my site.

Good morning Cheryl. I am so happy that your representatives found me and sent me an e-mail regarding your upcoming “Be the best you” event in Vienna, Va. Now I can save your blog to my favorites.

I’m am sadden by what is happening around us, but the LORD sustains me. I was saved last May and it couldn’t have come at a better time. What am I saying? The LORD waited patiently for me and I am truly grateful to HIM and for HIM. Money and work was very important to me. NOW at this point in my life, if I were to lose either one, JESUS will continue to walk w/me and SUSTAIN me. I am not in a recession. I am at peace and I am blessed because my hope and joy is in HIM.

    Love for a great day!
